Which apps work on iPhone Duo?

Every iPhone app runs on iPhone Duo, but on the inner screen an app that isn't built for it opens in an iPhone-size window with black bars around it. We check the App Store's most popular apps all day long: here's which ones fill the screen.

Out of the 185 most popular apps in Australia: 11 are adapted to the inner screen, 3 are announced, 159 were updated without a word on the Duo, and 12 haven't been updated for it yet (black bars).

Good to know

Why do some apps have black bars on iPhone Duo?

Because they were built before Apple's iPhone Duo tools. On the inner screen, an app built for an older iOS opens in an iPhone-size window on a black background; one built for iOS 27.0 uses more of it but leaves some space blank; only apps built with the iOS 27.1 SDK, which developers have had since 5 October 2026, use the whole display.

Do apps that aren't adapted still work on iPhone Duo?

Yes. Every iPhone app runs on iPhone Duo: one that isn't adapted just doesn't fill the inner screen until its developer updates it.

How do I know if an app is ready for iPhone Duo?

Search it on this page. “Adapted” means Apple or the developer says so, and we link the source; “Updated, unconfirmed” means it was rebuilt after Apple's tools came out, which often fills the screen on its own; “Not yet” means its current version is older than those tools.

How often is this list updated?

All day long: we read the App Store top charts (United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, Canada, Australia, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Türkiye, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, China, South Korea, Mexico, and Brazil), 1,670 apps so far, and check each app's version, release notes and description again within about 1 h.

How we measure

Sources: Apple's list of apps adapted to iPhone Duo (22 October 2026) and each app's App Store record (version, release date, release notes, description). Apple doesn't say which tools an app was built with, so an app stays “Updated, unconfirmed” until its developer says more. Apple's announcement
